September 11, 2001 - Never Forget!

I was apart of something this year on 9/11, that was probably one of the most honorable things I have ever done! Myself along with 342 other firefighters and our families honored those that gave the ultimate that day...their lives! With our families cheering us on in the lobby of the building, 343 firefighters climbed the 110 stories (the number of stories that FDNY firefighters climbed before perishing in the towers trying to save civilians), each of us carrying a name of one fallen firefighter, from 9/11, to bring them to the top and honor them. It was AMAZING...this is the 2nd year that local firefighters have done this climb in Sacramento. I was honored to carry Kevin Smith 110 flights and place his name on a twin tower replica at the top! Several of us from my department went down and climbed together. Our family feels so honored to be apart of the "Fire Family" and we want you all to know that the most important thing is to never forget...never forget what those 343 firefighters gave that day! As our Honor Guard says..."For Those That Went Before"! Here are a few pic's from the day...

We pinned their names, over our names, on our turnout coats and carried them on our backs to the top!

Kevin Smith had been a firefighter for over 20 years, when he passed. He was a husband and Dad to 8 children, one which is named Anthony!

Me and a good friend of mine, Lisa, with a now retired firefighter from FDNY who came as a guest of honor!

Here we all are at the top, before we hung each of our names in the towers!
